A Street Cleaning Van

This is a street cleaning van. It sweeps and sprays water on streets, mostly to take away sand used in winter on icy streets. The streets look very nice after a such cleanup.

MSC Orchestra

MSC Orchestra is a cruise ship that was built in 2007 for MSC Cruises. She is the second ship of the Musica class. She can accommodate 2,550 passangers in 1,275 cabins. Her crew complement is approximately 990. Six of the crew, all Eastern Europeans were arrested during 2010 after a huge haul of cocaine was found on board whilst berthed at Dover, United Kingdom. They were sentenced in 2011 to around 15 years each ≈ Wikipedia

This ship was berthed in Stavanger few days ago. It looked very huge compared to the small marina of Stavanger city center.

Being Renovated/Fixed

This is Stavanger Domkirke, the only Norwegian cathedral from the Middle Ages that has retained its original appearance and been in constant use. It has been renovated/fixed since the last couple of months. To see other photos of this cathedral you can click here and here.

Iron Man

This statue was created by Gormley. I have posted same statue in a different places here, here and here. This one is located in front of the harbour in city center. It is spring now but still cold and someone has been so nice to him by giving him a hat :)

This is one of my many favorite parts of town. It located between Godalen and Breivik in Storhaug area. A nice place to sit and reflect myself while enjoying the view towards fjord and the mountains. Live with love and be aware. May all beings be happy :)

This is a shopping center in the town center. It has many small and nice shops, and a coffee bar. In this location in 1897 a hospital for the poor was located and a later on a workplace for the poor.

Moods of Norway

Across the street from Dressman this shop is located; Moods of Norway. Here the suits are REAL funky, and one will be fashionable with these clothes. Moods of Norway have opened stores in many cities also abroad.

Dressmann

Dressman is a store selling clothes to men all over Norway, it is low price store, but quality is good. It is ordinary clothes, so you will probably not win a fashion price wearing them. BUT, last week the company said it would have "creative input" from Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones. So maybe some funky clothes are coming.

There are not many fountains in Stavanger. This one is located beside an old Stavanger hospital which is now being used as a Public Offices. You can see other photo of fountain which I have posted in summer 2006 here. It is in the middle of Breiavatnet which is frozen right now.

This is the street in front of Emmaus Barnehage (kindergarten). I passed this street everyday (except at the weekends and holidays) and there is nothing special about it. But today, it looks beautiful with the snow and sun that shines over the houses.

December 2010 Theme Day - Time

I interpret DP theme this month as the time which I spent with my friend Ana in the hospital. She got stroke last week and has to undergo therapy for her left leg which paralyzed. The fact that she's still very young makes me realize how precious time is. So we have to make the best of it since we don't know when it will be taken from us.

November 2010 DP Theme - Public Transportation

This is a railway station located in downtown Stavanger and the terminus of Sørlandsbanen. It was opened in 1872 as part of Jærbanen from Stavanger to Egersund. In 1944 it became part of Sørlandsbanen when it was concluded between Egersund and Kristiansand. The station is not big, but was equipped with a platform with a roof.

Gladmat Food Festival 2010

This yearly event has ended today. I just had a chance to attend this event today since I was away for my summer holiday. Gladmat started in around 1999 and has grown in size and confidence, with exhibitors and sellers and outdoor cafes and restaurants filling up both sides of vaagen - the main harbour in central Stavanger.

This is a big house. It looks like more than one family could live there, but the garage seems to be for only one car? Anyway this is how modern houses are built. It has a nice balcony above the garage, but some of the windows can not be opened and is therefore difficult to wash.

Stavanger has made a new path from Hillevåg to Vaulen along the coast towards Gandsfjorden. Here is a bridge from Kristianlyst down to this path. The path is really nice and it is so wonderful walking there. We hope that one day one can walk from Stavanger to Sandnes along the coast.

This is my daughter's kindergarten covered by snow. This year is the longest and the coldest winter I have been experienced. Hopefully it will soon over. Everybody has enough of this winter.
