This statue is dedicated to the men and women of Norwegian blood who have contributed to the building of America as you can read on the stone. It was built 150 years ago.Updated 30/6/06
More than 160 years ago Norwegian people started the immigration. This statue was made to celebrate the 100th year of immigration which means that it was built around 60 years ago. My apology.

Here are some links about Norwegian immigration to USA the last 150 years.
First 2 links in Norwegian, then one in English;
http://www.nb.no/emigrasjon/n_timeline.html
http://web.hist.uib.no/delfag/olauge/UtvandringfraNorge.htm
and in English
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na1.html
Norway were VERY poor until the last 50 years, therof the massive immigration out of Norway.

louise : viking was not included. Viking era was about thousand year ago.
kate : for Norwegian, America means USA. The link given by bahr might be useful to answer your question. Thanks bahr for the assistance.

The sculpture is skilful and the photo very good.
I am just wondering, is here any statue or something else
for them, who mowed to America.
They say in one our song, that " only
cowards can go over the sea". Perhaps this thinking about those days is very strong still.
You post put me to think.
